Dean McDowell was born, lives and works in Northern Ireland. Graduating with honours in graphic design, he worked within the graphics industry for several years before moving into field of fine art.
Through the fine art medium he is intrinsically drawn to the beauty within sorrow, this can be seen in his surreal portrait of people. Initially one is drawn in by the dark emotional subject matter and the circumstances of the image, and finally asked to question not only their perspective but the artist’s final intent. Using traditional painting techniques, coupled with his knowledge of illustration he plays with the atmosphere of each painting, never deciding what the mood will be until the final brush stroke.
McDowell has exhibited extensively with work shown and on display in galleries throughout the UK, Europe and America.
