First of all thank you for taking this interview at Best Bookmarks. Tell us a few words about you and your work .
Best Bookmarks > What inspires you to make these magnificent drawings?
Ben Heine > People, nature, small events, animals, love, freedom, friendship… These are some recurrent themes in my works.
BB > How you came with the idea of design and drawings to overlay images and Photografs?
BH > I’ve been drawing and taking photos since many years, so this came very naturally. I first tried to mix a photo in a photo, then a drawing in a drawing, but it wasn’t enough original, so I decided to combine drawing and photography.
BB > Already going over 50 images what is your favorite?
BH > I think it’s number 57 so far. It carries a special secret only known by me.
BB > What can we expect more from you as an artist you will surprise us with more work in the future?
BH > I would like to do music. I know it sounds crazy and quite different than what I have done so far. But this would be a new challenge.

“Pencil Vs Camera” mixes drawing and photography, imagination and reality. It’s a new visual concept invented and initiated by Ben Heine in 2010. It’s full of magic, illusion, poetry and surrealism. Ben published his first “Pencil Vs Camera” image in April 2010 but the series is the result of a long graphic exploration and a logic consequence of his personal artistic development.
